Ultrasound

Ultrasound is technically any frequency beyond 20 KHz, but that term is usually reserved for frequencies beyond 1 MHz, also known as “Therapeutic Ultrasound”. Therapeutic-grade ultrasound penetrates deeper and is best used by a trained professional, and depending on the settings, it can have an effect on the deep skin layers, fat cells, muscles and even bones!

  • The thermal effect of of therapeutic ultrasound energy results in an increase in fibroblast activity (the cell that produces collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the dermis), delivery of ingredients deep into the skin.

  • Therapeutic ultrasound also influence cellular membrane permeability, which means it pushes beneficial ingredients through the skin and enhances the delivery and absorption of nutrients deep in the skin layers.

  • Therapeutic ultrasound also causes the contraction of your existing collagen fibres, promoting new non-scar collagen growth that helps to tighten and improve the outer architecture of the skin.

Therapeutic-grade ultrasound equipment can be used for intense skin rejuvenation, superficial and deep wrinkles, skin tightening, deep skin soothing and healing, body contouring, gentle fat cells detox and even cellulite reduction.

Ultrasound For Skin Rejuvenation

Therapeutic ultrasound is included in all Skin Treatments. The ultrasound technology featured at the clinic is medical-grade. The frequency best for face & neck area is between 2-3.2 MHz, as it penetrates 5-11mm (the epidermis and dermis combined are about 10-15mm thick).

For maximum results, a series of 4-12 weekly treatments, once or twice per year, along with an at-home device is recommended to give the desired skin tightening and wrinkle smoothing effect that lasts.

Ultrasound For Body Shaping & Cellulite

Ultrasound is included in all Body Treatments. The ultrasound technology featured at the clinic is medical-grade and can help improve the appearance of body contours, cellulite and skin laxity on the body. The frequency best for body areas is around 1MHz, as it penetrates up to 5cm thick (the fat cells are usually located deeper than 1-1.5cm).

For maximum results, a series of 4-12 weekly treatments, once or twice per year is recommended to give the desired results. Body microcurrent is recommended for at-home maintenance.

Ultrasound Pre & Post Care

For maximum results, and for long term overall health. It’s important to combine your ultrasound treatment with home care and after care that supports your body.

Frequency

The body requires 72 hours to eliminate fat and toxins after a treatment therefore treatments can only be provided every 3 days with a maximum of 40 minutes per treatment.

On average, most clients require 4 – 10 treatments to achieve best possible results.

Pre-Treatment

To ensure your body responds well to ultrasound, drink at least 3-4 liters of water over a 24-hour period prior to the treatment. It is essential to stagger water consumption over this period to ensure your body is well hydrated.

Tip: Make sure your skin is hydrated externally as well, ask me about body lotion options!

Diet & Exercise

To achieve optimal results a healthy diet 24hrs pre and post treatment will ensure your body utilizes the triglycerides released by the fat cavitation process. For best results, healthy eating should be followed ongoing.

While ultrasound is a great tool to help to contour your body through the emulsification of fat, it will not compensate for a healthy and active lifestyle.

Post-Treatment

  • The release of energy into your body through ultrasound can also release any toxins stored in the fat, which will naturally filter out of your system following treatment. To assist the detoxification process, 3-4 liters of water should be consumed within the 24 hours post treatment.

  • It can be common for some clients to experience redness and micro bumps across the area. This is completely dependant on the individual and how they react to the slight internal heat elevation. It’s recommended if the redness does not start to subside 2hours post treatment, to topically treat the area with Avene Cicalfate ointment.

  • Lymphatic drainage will also help release toxins from the body. Genevieve already performs Vodder lymph draiange as part of the treatment, but daily body brushing will help for lymph draiange at home.

  • A minimum of 20 minutes of elevated heart rate cardio exercise is required immediately following your treatment to ensure the stored energy released by the treatment process is burnt off.

Ultrasound Contraindications

Cancer: Cancer cells travel via the lymphatic system, as does waste produced by therapeutic ultrasound. A treatment presents an unacceptable risk of helping to move cancer cells.

Cold or flu: Therapeutic utrasound releases toxins from the body via the lymphatic system, and treatments can exacerbate flu symptoms which also leave the body the same way.

Swollen lymph nodes: Treatments cannot be performed in areas where lymph nodes are swollen, infected, or not draining properly.

Edema: edema or localized swelling of limbs indicates poor lymphatic flow. Treatments are not designed to alleviate edema and may in fact exacerbate the condition.

Active Infections & Immune-suppression: These factors compromise the healing ability of the body, and ultrasound should not be attempted until the infection or deficiency is cleared.

Liver, Kidney, or Heart Disease: Compromises the ability of the body to recover from treatments.

Severe hypertension, hyper-lipidemia, diabetes mellitus, or poor blood circulation and lymph problems are contra-indications.

Pregnancy: Sound waves generated by the treatment will very likely harm an unborn child’s hearing and may also result in compromising its immune system.

Breastfeeding: As mother’s milk draws nutrients from the body, there is an unacceptable degree of risk that toxins may pass into the milk and therefore be ingested by a nursing child.

Menstruation: During a period, the abdomen cannot be treated however other areas can be.

Metallic Implants: People who have metal implanted anywhere in their bodies, such as bone pins or pace makers cannot receive a treatment.

Skin allergies or inflammation: Areas with obvious signs of inflammation cannot be treated.
